Switzerland: No more quarantine for all travelers

The Swiss Federal Council has decided to amend the rules of entry into Switzerland amid the coronavirus pandemic, in particular by lifting the quarantine obligation for all travelers, but at the same time tightening the test rules.

In a press release issued on Friday, December 3, the Council confirmed that as of the next day, Saturday, there will be no more countries on the quarantine list.

 

“To further prevent the new Omicron variant from entering the country as much as possible, a more stringent testing regime will now be in place for all arrivals in Switzerland. This testing requirement also applies to people who have been vaccinated or who have recovered from the illness,” the Council noted in the press release announcing the decision.

He further explained that quarantine is no longer mandatory, travelers will have to take a second test from Wednesday to Saturday from the time they arrive in Switzerland. The test can be PCR or rapid antigen and has become mandatory to detect infected people who, on the first test, are false negatives.

The council also reiterates that travelers must pay for the inspection themselves.

At the same time, it was decided that from now on, rapid antigen tests would only be valid for 24 hours, not 48 hours as before. However, the PCR test is still valid for 72 hours.
