According to a report released on Monday by the European Environment Agency, Italy is among the worst performers in the EU when it comes to mortality caused by air pollution.

With 49,900 premature deaths attributable
to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), Italy ranked second only to
Germany in terms of premature mortality.
With 3,170 deaths attributed to ozone (O3) exposure, it recorded a 5% rise.
