Faro's renowned Santa Iria fair will take place between October 15 and 24. Ambifaro, the municipal company that organizes the festival, confirmed the news.
The fair, which is a tremendously popular event in the Algarve's capital, is thought to date back several centuries.
Although the organizers state that "it is impossible to establish with certainty when it was originally held," texts imply that it dates back to 1596.
The fair will be held at Largo de So Francisco and will include the customary attractions and exhibits showcasing local artisan and companies.
Delicacies from the
Algarve and the rest of Portugal will be available, including classic
'farturas' (fried doughnuts wrapped in sugar and cinnamon) and
staples like 'po com chouriço' (chorizo-filled bread). Enjoyed this post? Never miss out on future posts by following us.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Santa Iria fair, like every other autumn fair in the Algarve, was canceled last year.
The annual autumn festival Feira de So Martinho, which goes back to the 1700s and is famous for its boiling hot chestnuts, rides, and stalls offering all kinds of local delicacies, has yet to be confirmed by Portimo Council.
The Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of all of the Algarve's traditional autumn fairs last year.
