Premier Mario Draghi's cabinet approved unanimously on Thursday to make the Green Pass COVID-19 vaccine passport mandatory for all businesses in Italy.
The obligation will take effect on October 15 and will last until the end of the year, according to sources.

It will be compulsory for both private and public sector employees, as well as volunteers, sources said.
Employees who arrive at work without a Green Pass will be fired after five days, according to a draft of the new legislation.
Green Pass violators face fines ranging from 600 to 1,500 euros, according to the report.
According to the sources, COVID tests will be available at pharmacies at a reduced cost.
The government will also argue for the Green Pass requirement to be extended to parliament, the presidential palace, and the Constitutional Court, according to the sources, because the new restrictions do not apply automatically to constitutional authorities.
The green certificate verifies that a person has been vaccinated against the coronavirus, has recovered from it, or has tested negative within the last two days.
Unvaccinated people can acquire a Green Pass for a limited time, but they must continue to have COVID tests in order to renew it.
