France expecting 50 million tourists despite pandemic

According to French tourism minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, 50 million foreign visitors are expected in France this summer, primarily from Europe, while international tourists from farther afield will be largely missing owing to tight travel restrictions imposed to combat the spread of Covid-19.

In an interview with the monthly Le Journal du Dimanche, Lemoyne stated that 50 million international visitors are anticipated to visit France this year, up from 35 million last year and 90 million in 2019.

While visitors from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands are present, he claims that there are less British tourists due to the government's tight restrictions on their return.

He claims that foreign clients from outside Europe are still in short supply.

"Since June, a few Americans have returned, but we won't see any Asian tourists until 2022. Furthermore, Paris continues to be plagued by a shortage of business tourists "Added he.

Many French people, according to Lemoyne, are inclined to spend their vacations in France. With the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic sweeping the globe, he noted, many French people are opting to explore their country's territory.

"In 2020, 94 percent of French holidaymakers selected France. This year, the percentage is already over 80%, and it will most likely be near 85% next year."
