Italy has lowest marriage rate in Europe

 

According to Eurostat, Italy had the lowest marriage rate in the European Union in 2019, with 3.1 marriages per 1,000 people, led by Portugal and Slovenia (both 3.2) and France, Spain, and Luxembourg (3.5). Italy's average was 3.2 in 2018.

 

According to Eurostat, the number of marriages has been gradually decreasing whilst the number of divorces has been steadily increasing.

According to the study, the marriage rate in the United States has decreased from 8.0 in 1964 to 4.3 in 2019.

Cyprus (8.9 marriages per 1000 people), Lithuania (7.0), Latvia and Hungary (both 6.7), and Romania (8.9 marriages per 1000 people) were the EU countries with the highest marriage rates in 2019. (6.6).

Slovakia was next (5.4), followed by Denmark and Malta (5.3).

 

As stated by Eurostat, the divorce rate has more than doubled since 1964. The statistical agency said that it was 0.8 in 1,000 in 1964 and 1.8 in 2019.

Malta and Ireland have the lowest divorce rates in 2019 (0.7 divorces per 1000 people), followed by Slovenia (1.2), Italy (1.4), and Croatia (1.5). (1.5).

 

Latvia, Lithuania, and Luxembourg had the highest divorce rates (all with 3.1 divorces per 1000 people), followed by Cyprus (2.6), and Sweden (2.5).
