Spain takes delivery of first batch of AstraZeneca vaccine

The Spanish Ministry of Health said that Spain received the first batch of AstraZeneca vaccines on Saturday, but only used them for people under 55.

Spain became the latest European country, imposing age restrictions on the Anglo-Swedish Jab. It has been said before that it will restrict the use of AstraZeneca vaccines to under 65.

Spain received 196.800 doses of the first batch of AstraZeneca vaccines on Saturday.

This move echoes earlier decisions by more and more countries in Europe. Although the European Medicines Agency used green lighting for all adults late last week, these countries have restricted the use of the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement: "At a meeting on Friday, the Public Health Committee, based on scientific evidence, has approved the maximum age for people to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 at 55."
