Spain: Animal rights group offers €250,000 to cancel bull-running festival

An American animal rights organisation provides cash to permanently ban Pamplona’s famous bull running.

Due to the Covid crisis, the Spanish city of Pamplona in Navarre was forced last week to cancel its bull run for the second year in a row.

PETA organisation seized the opportunity to call for a permanent ban on its activities. If the city of Pamplona stops using bulls altogether during the festival, the animal rights group based in Norfolk will offer 298.000 euros, as it wrote to the mayor of Pamplona.

Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of PETA, said in an appeal to Enrique Maya, the mayor of Pamplona: “People all over the world, including Spain, say that they should stop the torture and The slaughter is over." It is time to stand on the right side of history. We hope that you will accept our offer and allow Pamplona to reinvent itself for everyone to enjoy. "

During the eight-day festival in San Fermin in Pamplona, six bullfighting and six bisons are released through the narrowness streets of the old town where the bulls are killed in the evening.
