The Portuguese parliament, which recently re-elected the president, passed a law that allows euthanasia in the country.
The bill will authorize doctor-assisted suicide for Portuguese adults in the event of "extremely painful and irreparable loss". Those who would rather die can also choose to make "free and informed" decisions.
The draft was confirmed by an overwhelming majority of votes-136 members agreed, 78 members opposed, and four refused to vote.
